The Local Government Commission is looking at whether changes are needed in Southland’s local government structure. We want to hear your views on the issues and opportunities you see for local government in the region.

These councils provide services and infrastructure that affect people across the region. Your insights will help us build a clearer picture of how local government is working for communities.

How to get involved
- Complete the Survey: We will be undertaking a public survey from Wednesday 4 March 2026 - details will be made available here shortly.
- Attend Public Meetings: Join us online or at in-person hui to discuss the issues and opportunities for local government in Southland.
- Stay Informed: The Commission will publish a report on our website upon conclusion of these engagements.
