Representation reviews
All councils are required to review their representation arrangements (number of councillors, how they are elected etc.) at least every six years.
Tasman District Council reviewed its representation arrangements prior to the 2019 local authority elections.
As a result of the referral of the council's proposal, given it did not comply with fair representation requirements, the Local Government Commission was required to determine certain ward arrangements in the Tasman District Council’s final proposal for the election held on 12 October 2019.

Tasman District Council is next required to review its representation arrangements prior to the 2025 local authority elections.
Local government reorganisation
On 31 October 2018, the Local Government Commission received an application for establishment of a Golden Bay local board which, if approved, would have replaced the existing Golden Bay Community Board. After consultations the Commission decided not to establish a local board but instead to facilitate discussion on the possibility of greater empowerment of the Golden Bay Community Board. At Tasman District reorganisation application for Golden Bay local board you can view the process the Commission took in relation to this application.
