Overview:
A proposal to merge the territory of Banks Peninsula District with Christchurch City, and abolish the Banks Peninsula District Council, was initiated by a group of Banks Peninsula ratepayers.
The Hawke's Bay Regional Council, the Hastings District Council and the Napier City Council submitted five proposals to the Commission for the reorganisation of local government in Hawke's Bay. The Commission's subsequent review of local government in the region resulted in a scheme to amalgamate Hastings District and Napier City.
A proposal to alter the boundary between the Otago and Canterbury Regions was initiated by a group of ratepayers. The boundary alteration proposed that the area of the Waitaki District falling within the Canterbury Region be transferred to the Otago Region.
A proposal to alter the boundary between the Wairoa District and Hastings District was initiated by the South of the Mohaka River Ratepayers Group. The boundary alteration proposed that the area of Wairoa District south of the Mohaka River be transferred to Hastings District.
The Waitakere City Council requested approval from the Local Government Commission to vary the area over which certain rates are levied in respect of loans raised by the Glen Eden Borough Council, the Henderson Borough Council, the New Lynn Borough Council and the Waitemata City Council.
Proposal to Amalgamate Rangitikei District and Manawatu District
A proposal to merge the Rangitikei District with the Manawatu District, and abolish the Rangitikei District Council, was initiated by the Rangitikei Ratepayers Association.
