The Local Government Commission adopted a process, under clause 7, Schedule 3 of the Local Government Act 2022, for investigating proposed changes to the boundary between Kawerau District and Whakatane District.
The effect of the proposed changes would be to transfer four parcels of land in three separate areas from Whakatane District to Kawerau District:

Consultation documents including details of the proposed boundary changes are available on the Commission website at the link above. Hard copies are available at the offices of both councils and at public libraries. Submissions can also be made by email to submissions@lgc.govt.nz
If required, a public hearing will be held in April 2023 for those wishing to speak in support of their submission.
