Public Notice: Decision on the representation arrangements for the election of the Whangarei District Council to be held on 8 October 2022

In accordance with section 19R of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Government Commission has determined the representation arrangements for the election of the Whangarei District Council to be held on 8 October 2022.

In order to provide effective representation of communities of interest and fair representation for electors of Whangarei District, the Commission has determined that:

The Council will comprise a mayor and 13 councillors elected as follows:

Ward	Councillors
Bream Bay General	2
Hikurangi-Coastal General	2
Mangakahia-Maungatapere General	1
Whangarei Heads General	1
Whangarei Urban General	5
Whangarei District Māori	2

There will be no community boards.

The Commission’s decision differs from the Council’s proposal by:

Retaining four of the current general wards with a boundary alteration so that the southern part of Cemetery Road north of State Highway 15, currently in the Bream Bay Ward, is moved into the Mangakahia-Maungatapere General Ward
Combining the current Denby Ward with the Okara Ward (to be called the Whangarei Urban General Ward)
