Public Notice: Decision on the representation arrangements for the election of the Ruapehu District Council to be held on 8 October 2022

In accordance with section 19R of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Government Commission has determined the representation arrangements for the election of the Ruapehu District Council to be held on 8 October 2022.

In order to provide effective representation of communities of interest and fair representation for electors of Ruapehu District, the Commission has determined that:

The Council will comprise a mayor and nine councillors elected as follows:

There will be community boards as follows:

The Commission’s decision differs from the Council’s proposal by:

• Reducing the number of elected members from 11 plus the mayor to nine plus the mayor
• combining the proposed Taumarunui-Ōhura General Ward and the proposed Waimarino General Ward into a single district-wide Ruapehu General Ward
• altering the proposed membership of two of the three community boards as follows:
  • Reducing the membership of the Taumarunui-Ōhura Community Board from seven elected members plus one appointed member to five elected members plus one appointed member
  • Increasing the membership of the Ōwhango-National Park Community Board from four elected members plus one appointed member to five elected members plus one appointed member
