Public Notice: Decision on the representation arrangements for the election of the Rotorua District Council to be held on 8 October 2022

In accordance with section 19R of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Government Commission has determined the representation arrangements for the election of the Rotorua District Council to be held on 8 October 2022.

In order to provide effective representation of communities of interest and fair representation for electors of Rotorua District, the Commission has determined that:

The Council will comprise a mayor and 10 councillors elected as follows:

The Commission’s decision differs from the Council’s proposal by:

  • Increasing the number of members elected in the Te Ipu Wai Taketake Māori Ward to three
  • Increasing the number of members elected in the Te Ipu Wai Auraki General Ward to six
  • Adjusting the boundaries of the Te Ipu Wai Auraki General Ward to cover the Rotorua urban and Lakes areas
  • Creating a Rotorua Rural General Ward, covering the same area as the Rotorua Rural Community Board, electing one member
  • Removing at-large members, so that all members are elected by ward.
