Public Notice: Decision on the representation arrangements for the election of the Gisborne District Council to be held on 8 October 2022

In accordance with section 19R of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Government Commission has determined the representation arrangements for the election of the Gisborne District Council to be held on 8 October 2022.

In order to provide effective representation of communities of interest and fair representation for electors of Gisborne District, the Commission has determined that:

The Council will comprise a mayor and 13 councillors elected as follows:

Tairāwhiti General

Tairāwhiti Māori

There will be no community boards.

The Commission’s decision differs from the Council’s proposal by:

  • Combining the Tūranganui City General Ward and the Tairāwhiti Rural General Ward into one ward to be called Tairāwhiti General Ward.
