Date: 17 May 2017
The Local Government Commission thanks the people who made submissions on its draft proposal for a Wairarapa District Council, and is preparing to hear from those who have made appointments to speak to their submissions.
The Commission received almost 1200 individual responses, including a number of lengthy submissions.
“We would like to thank those who took the time and effort to make submissions," said Commission Chair Sir Wira Gardiner. “Staff are now in the process of compiling and analysing these.
“We look forward to hearing in person from submitters on their views."
Sir Wira said that the analysis of the submissions will be made public, together with the results of a rigorous, independent survey, and other analyses, when the Commission releases its decision either to put a final proposal to the community or to stop the process.
The Commission’s hearings are for those people or organisations that made a submission, indicated that they wished to speak to it, and have been allocated a time for this with the Commission. Bookings have now closed, but the hearings are open for the public to attend and observe.
“This is an opportunity for those submitters to address me and my fellow commissioners in person, and for us to ask questions if there are issues that need clarification," Sir Wira said.
