Commission announces decision on representation arrangements for Selwyn District Council
The Local Government Commission today announced its decision on the Selwyn District Council’s membership and ward arrangements for the 2016 local elections.
The Council had proposed to retain the existing arrangements for the Council – a Mayor and 11 councillors elected from four wards – along with the Malvern Community Board. It proposed to dis-establish the Selwyn Community Board. There were 12 appeals against the Council’s proposal, all seeking retention of the Selwyn Central Community Board.
After hearing from the Council and the appellants the Commission has decided to uphold the Council’s proposal.
The Council’s representation arrangements for the 2016 local elections will therefore be:
Malvern Ward | 2 councillors |
Selwyn Central Ward | 4 councillors |
Ellesmere Ward | 2 councillors |
Springs Ward | 3 councillors |
The Council’s proposal to disestablish the Selwyn Central Community Board was upheld.
The determination is available on the Commission’s website: http://www.lgc.govt.nz/decisions-and-determinations/view/selwyn-district-council-2016
