The Local Government Commission has released its determinations on the wards, local boards and boundaries for the new Auckland Council, along with consequential transition issues.

LegislationThe Local Government (Tamaki Makaurau Reorganisation) Act 2009 establishes a single unitary authority for the Auckland Region - the Auckland Council - to be elected in October 2010. The Auckland Council will take over from the existing local authorities in the Auckland Region. The Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009 sets out details on the structure, functions, duties and powers of the Auckland Council. It also required the Local Government Commission to determine the representation arrangements for the council and a second tier governance structure of local boards.
